Decorative Pillow Businesses are on The Rise
Hi everyone,
What type of pillow do you use at home?
We all have standard pillows that we sleep on, but there are more types that you never thought about before.
- Standard, king, and queen pillows
- Euro pillows
- Decorative pillows
- Boudoir pillow
- Neckroll pillow
And then we also have different pillow types for side sleepers, neck pain people, and even some for snorers.
Crazy!
Today, I wanted to bring an idea to your attention that might have some legs.
I am saying “might,” as I haven’t tested it myself, but the numbers look positive.
I am, of course, talking about the decorative pillow industry.
This company creates custom pillows in the shape of your pets (yes, the exact shape).
If you don’t want to go that extreme, you can stay basic and create a pillow with your pet’s face on it.
There are plenty of businesses doing that. For example, this one:
And there are 100s of other ones.

This is an interest graph for the word “custom pillows” on Google.
As you can see, more and more people are searching for custom pillows every year.
The reason that you are seeing those big jumps is because it is becoming one of the most popular Christmas gifts ever.
And yes, I think there’s an opportunity here.
I am imagining this:
Step 1: Creating a website where people can buy pillows from. All types of pillows. The website will have a calm feel, and simply being on the website will make you want to go to sleep.
Step 2: The website will allow you to custom design your own pillow, but the website will also have pillows of your own design.
I think the pillow design market is neglected in any country (and most other parts of the world).
With some modern, quirky, and minimal design, you can create a buzz.
Step 3: Only market the custom pillow side of things. Don’t market the original designs. Traffic will come to the website seeing the custom option; they will end up browsing, and some will buy the ones designed by you.
A couple of afterthoughts:
- Shipping is something that you need to solve. Shipping a pillow is no joke.
- I would 100% create content around how to sleep better, neck pain, and all related topics, then run Facebook ads on top of those videos.
If you are doing it in any country, don’t market it as a holiday gift or gift item. Gifting a pillow is not in any country’s culture.
People will buy pillows for their own from your store.
And eventually, you will turn the business into one that covers all sleep verticals (mattress, pillow, bedsheet, aroma for the room, etc.).
Sleep on this idea today (see what I did there).
