How This Guy Made $1,036,175 Using a Key

Hi everyone,

We don’t really do a lot of offline business breakdowns in this article. Most of our ideas revolve around online and digital businesses.

Not today, my Lord. Not today.

I will give you a fun story of how a guy created a basic tool to make over $1 million in under 1 year.

Let’s begin.

In April 2020, during the lockdowns, a man found himself in a situation that would change his life forever.

With the world shutting down in March 2020, panic set in. He and his wife had just discovered that they were expecting their first child. Suddenly, he was worried about the future of his e-commerce and hotel businesses, which were the main sources of income for his family.

Everything seemed uncertain, and as a soon-to-be father, he was scared.

But instead of sitting around and worrying, he decided to get to work. While many people were binge-watching Netflix in their pajamas, he dove into what would become the most creative period of his career.

He came up with an idea for a new product, something that would be useful in the COVID world they were living in. He called it “The Touch Tool.”

It looked like this:

The Touch Tool was a brass keychain hook designed to help people avoid touching surfaces like door handles and gas station buttons—things that were now seen as potential germ hotspots.

He moved quickly. From the initial idea to the final design, it only took him 2.5 days.

He made a sketch and then contacted a few factories in China through Alibaba. It was simple.

By day 7, the Touch Tool was launched on his website. Sales took off, hitting $50,000 by the end of that first week and passing $100,000 just two days later.

In just 67 days, he had sold 27,227 units of the Touch Tool, making $1,036,175.

I like this story for two reasons.

It is an offline success story. I love those.

Two, it is a reminder that ideas are literally everywhere. It is all about fast, quick execution.

It is good to be back, and it feels good to write this article too.
